We hope everyone has had an enjoyable summer and staying healthy & safe. Luckily, one of the few things we are still able to enjoy is the outdoors. There’s always something you can find to do there. It’s nice to see that more & more local businesses are able to reopen & hopefully recover from these trying times we’re having this year. One thing that we as a club were able to continue on with was the Ride For Life benefitting Make A Wish Utah. Several things had to be altered to meet county health guidelines but we were able to conquer these hurdles and still hold our event. The RFL committee did an exceptional job with what they had to do to keep everyone safe & sanitary during the 2 day event. Adjustments had to be made in Wendover as well but everything turned out fine. There were about 56 machines this year which is considerably lower than years past but a great turnout considering the current conditions. A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to everyone that participated in any way!! With all your help the event was a success and more children of MAW will be able to receive wishes. Normally we hold our September club meeting at the MAW building in Murray but due to covid 19 we are not able to do that. So we will have our meeting at the normal location, EDGE POWERSPORTS in Draper on Monday 09/14/2020 7pm where we will also present the check to MAW. At the meeting we will also be taking nominations for officers & board members for 2021. Paid club members will be able to vote in November. Anyone is welcome to attend the meeting.
On Saturday 09/12/20 9am the club will be doing a cleanup service project out at Knolls. This is the event that was cancelled in April. If you are able to volunteer, please contact Steve Hawkins or click GOING on the Facebook event. He’s trying to secure 8-10 ppl. It will be about 3-4 hrs. No machines are required for this project. Please see the FB event for full details.
This month’s club ride is at Hardware Ranch on Saturday 09/19/20. Be unloaded and ready to ride by 10am. The staging area will be at the main parking lot just past the visitor center. It will be about a 70 mile ride. As always, bring a lunch & drinks for out on the trails and dress appropriately for the weather conditions. We will BBQ hot dogs & burgers after returning to the staging area. The club will provide the meat & drinks. Please bring a side dish to share.
Octobers ride will be in Ticaboo. Event info will be posted in a few weeks when it’s a bit closer to the event. And don’t forget that Novembers ride was changed to Moab. There was a large request for Moab so it was changed since it had to be cancelled earlier in the year. An event for that will also be created when it gets closer to the date.
June’s ride at Current Creek was a record breaker, 61 machines, WOW!! It was a great turn out. About 95 miles total. A couple machines broke down but with the help of fellow riders, everyone make it to a safe place to get help back to the starting point. We rode to Hannah & stopped for lunch then continued on to Upper Stillwater Dam where we took a break & checked out the lake before riding back down. Due to such a large group and a few setbacks, we got back to the staging area a little later than normal but we still had the BBQ and some down time before driving back to camps or home. Thanks to Steve & Jim for guiding us. It was a great day.
July’s ride was an optional 2 day ride in Manti on the Arapeen trail system. There were 41 machines Friday and 45 machines on Saturday. Both days were great riding weather. Friday we rode 85 miles & Saturday was 81 miles. On Saturday we started in Manti, went over to Sterling, rode to Ferron Res., Skyline Drive and back again. Half way through the day Saturday, Steve took a few 50” or less machines on a black diamond trail while the rest continued on the Arapeen. All went well until about the last 2 hours when a few machines had issues and needed assistance back. Again, we had some great people on the trail that made sure that no machine was left behind.
The club website is currently undergoing a face lift. Watch for info on when it will be completed so you can check it out. It will be a helpful resource to keep you updated on club information. Stay tuned….. Utahatv.com
Be thinking of areas that you would like to do club rides for next year. The board will be taking suggestions in the next couple months.
The trail host training meeting will be on Tuesday 09/15/20 6:30pm at the Utah Division of Natural Resources building. Seating is limited to 10 people and masks are required. It will be about a 2-3 hour class. This will certify you as a Trail Host. We are trail hosts at Wasatch Mountain State Park, and we need more people to be certified so we can have better coverage of the park. Please contact Steve Hawkins if you’re interested. The first 10 people will be in. Additional training classes will be scheduled later.
As always, we welcome anyone to come ride with us. Rides and events are always posted on the Facebook page & the website. If you have any questions, feel free to contact any board member, we’re happy to answer any questions. Stay safe and tread lightly. Remember to pack out what you pack in. Let’s keep our camping areas and riding trails clean. We don’t want to give them any reason to close areas that we love to recreate in.
